Resume Roast for Financial Analysts

Financial Analyst resumes are a parade of built models and prepared reports, and the reviewer has stopped reading those verbs. What they scan for: whose decision your analysis fed, how big the numbers were, and your Excel or SQL depth. A model that changed a budget is experience. A model that sat in a folder is homework. Say which one you built, and for whom.

What Gabe checks first on a Financial Analyst resume
  • Tie each analysis to a decision, like variance analysis that cut department overspend 12 percent. Prepared monthly reports says the printer worked.
  • State the size of what you analyzed: revenue base, budget, portfolio. Analyzing a 5 million budget and a 500 million one are different jobs.
  • Be specific on tools: advanced Excel with INDEX-MATCH and pivot models, SQL queries you wrote, Power BI dashboards in daily use. Proficient in Excel is filler.
