Resume Roast for Marketing Managers

Marketing Manager resumes love the word campaign and hate the word result, which is backwards from how recruiters read them. The scan looks for budget owned, channels run, and numbers moved: pipeline, leads, revenue attributed. Managed integrated campaigns across channels is a sentence that could be typed by anyone. A budget figure and a growth percentage cannot. Lead with the numbers your campaigns produced.

What Gabe checks first on a Marketing Manager resume
  • State the budget you owned and what it returned, like 400 thousand annual spend producing 2.1 million in attributed pipeline. Budget is scope; return is skill.
  • Name channels with their results separately, like email at 32 percent open rate, paid social at 3x ROAS. Multichannel without numbers is a shrug.
  • Show team scope if you managed one: headcount, agencies, freelancers. Manager of campaigns and manager of people are different jobs with the same title.
Worth knowing

Most ATS software ranks and filters resumes for humans to read. It does not silently reject them. (how applicant tracking systems actually work)
